BIIT is a private, self-financed IT education institute originally established under a public-private partnership with Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMAS-AAU), Rawalpindi to address growing needs in software development and computing education. In 2016, on recommendation of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Government of Pakistan, BIIT transitioned from a joint-venture to an affiliated institute status.
